COVID-19 Face Shield Production
Year: 2020
Medium: FDM 3D printing, laser-cut acrylic
Role: Designer, Fabricator, Organizer
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I 3D-printed over 3,500 face shields and distributed them to first-responder organizations across the Bay Area. The project started with a single printer and a publicly available shield design, then scaled into a production operation—optimizing print settings, batch workflows, and material sourcing to maximize output.
The project earned a Certificate of Honor from NorCal Ambulance. It taught me how to think about manufacturing at scale.
Where can I improve the design to be more comfortable?
What can I change to increase throughput?
